Print is dead.
It’s a proclamation you’ll never hear from us. (We’ve been hooked on phonics since our Pat the Bunny days.)
Art director/filmmaker Claire Cottrell feels the same way; in her downtime, she designed Book Stand, an online shop specializing in limited-run, hard-to-acquire art tomes.
Visitors expecting the usual genres (biography/fiction/mystery) will be sorely disappointed. Instead, Cottrell catalogs her stock according to whimsical themes like Dreamlands, Shades of Pink, Sweet Earth, and Food Design (we scored a book on Japanese butter art). There are also infinitely browseable subsections of zines, vintage books, and (coming soon) films.
For the e-tail averse, Cottrell is launching several curated store-within-a-store book stands at TBA locations around town next month.
Sounds like a novel idea.
Available at artbookstand.com, $10 and up, plus shipping.
