Neighborhood markets are like the Alabama Beach mouse: adorable and in danger of becoming extinct.
So when Topanga Canyon couple Danielle King and Peter Kagan learned their grocer was on the brink of shuttering, they considered it their duty to intervene. (Both have glamorous day jobs: She’s a stylist; he directs commercials.)
Several paint coats later, Canyon Gourmet 2.0 is open for business.
The new iteration stocks lust-worthy essentials (farmers market produce, local honey, small-batch olive oil, top-shelf wine) along with gourmet foods, like Suzanne Goin’s frozen pot pies, Moon Juice drinks, and pancake batter from Axe.
Shoppers can also peruse chic giftables, such as vintage Dansk teak cheese boards and (soon to come) Commune linen napkins.
A grocery store with style to spare? We’re all ears.
