The next cake boss. An ace of cakes.
There’s homegrown talent right here in our own backyard — at South Seattle Community College’s award-winning Pastry and Specialty Baking program. And you don’t have to wait until graduation to sample the goods.
As part of the curriculum, the program provides on-campus cafe Bernie’s Espresso and Deli with a smattering of classic European pastries, such as chocolate eclairs, praline biscotti, lemon tarts, cream puffs, and weekly specials, at a price that goes down easy (e.g., less than $3). No college ID required.
And it keeps the oven warm for special requests. Orange brioche for brunch? A couple dozen fresh baguettes for a dinner party? A traditional Austrian Black Forest cake? Chocolate Easter bunnies? Just name it.
The traditionally creamy Napoleons are famous.
No order’s too tall.
Available at Bernie’s Espresso and Deli, South Seattle Community College, Cascade Court, 6000 16th Avenue Southwest (southseattle.edu/bernies). For special orders, call 206-934-5818.
