Bar Exam

Take out your pencils. Time for a pop quiz.

Question: If John leaves Fremont at 7 p.m. and drives down Leary at 40 mph and Sally leaves Lower Queen Anne at the same time and drives down 15th Avenue at 57 mph, who will arrive first at Ballard’s most off-the-radar new bistro and bar?

Answer: Wait a second. There’s an undiscovered spot in Ballard?

Yep. Hip but homey, The Station, a renovated 1940s garage, has yet to be stumbled upon by the masses. (Somebody hasn’t been doing their homework.)

So grab a table (old Garfield High chalkboards) or hang at the bar (reclaimed chemistry lab tabletops) and dig into hearty dishes like braised pork shoulder, Russian steak dumplings, and red velvet cake.

For extra credit, wine comes in water glasses, and food prices hover in the $9 range.

We know: This one’s a no-brainer.

The Station, 4910 Leary Avenue Northwest, at 17th Street (206-782-8466).
