It’s Labor Day weekend. So go ahead and work it.

Treehouse Back-to-School Donation Drive
What: Send foster kids back to class with new backpacks, school supplies, and clothing.
Why: Everyone deserves a JanSporting chance.
When: Thru Sept. Donations accepted Mon.-Fri., 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

Bumbershoot Visual Arts Exhibits
What: Take a break between sets with installations from Miranda July, the Nick Drake estate, Instant Coffee, and local prankster collective PDL.
Why: They’re playing by art.
When: Free Fri., noon-6 p.m.; with festival entry, Sat. & Sun., 11 a.m.-8 p.m.
Where: Northwest Rooms, Seattle Center.

Backstage Pass Kickoff Party
What: Pacific Northwest Ballet’s twenty-/thirty-something social group opens the ’07-’08 season with crepes, wine, and shopping specials.
Why: Should be on pointe.
When: Thurs., 6:30-9 p.m.

Kim Deitch and Megan Kelso Book Signing
What: Legendary cartoonists (Deitch was an R. Crumb cohort, Kelso’s work appears regularly in The New York Times Magazine) discuss their work, sign books, and show prints.
Why: A little comic relief.
