Gimme Some Sugar

Sugar Bakery + Cafe Opens

hey, sugar, sugar!

You’ve always suspected your genetic code includes more snips, snails, and puppy dog tails than sugar and spice.

Still, you’re always in the mood for something nice. Especially when it comes from First Hill’s darling new Sugar Bakery + Cafe.

Owner Stephanie Crocker combines the precision of a French patissier (she took a class from Bakery Nouveau’s William Leaman) with the comforting goodness of nostalgic all-American baking (she honed her skills at local farmers markets). The results are indulgent, unexpected, and as comforting as a carbohydratey hug.

Try the petit fours, gingerbread cupcakes, caramel apple tarts, or cinnamon brioche (a heavenly hybrid somewhere between croissant and cinnamon roll).

Because that’s what delicious bakeries are made of.

Sugar Bakery + Cafe, 1014 Madison Street, between Boren and Terry Avenues (206-749-4105 or sugarbakerycafe.com).
