A Hair-Raising Experience

Vain’s DIY Updo

just updo it!

Wearing your hair down is so 2007. Ring in the New Year with a festive updo from the creative geniuses at Vain. (Bonus for the lazy: It works best on unwashed hair.)

You will need
Bobby pins
Sparkly hair pins, a vintage brooch, and/or feathers
Hair (chin length or longer)

Instructions
1. Use your hair dryer’s diffuser to disperse any oil and shake in a small amount of baby powder to absorb the rest.

2. Gather the section of hair in front of the ear on one side of your head. (If you have sideswept bangs, start on the side where your bangs originate.)

3. Twist hair up and back, continuing the twist by picking up more hair (both below the twist and tight against your head) as you work.

so pretty!4. Place bobby pins diagonally forward and into the twist; use two crossed pins for thick or coarse hair. Spray lightly with hair spray as you go.

5. Continue twisting and pinning toward the other side of your head until you reach your temple. (The twist will get thicker as you work, so use extra bobby pins and cross for security.)

6. Secure the end of the twist by turning the remaining section backward and pinning into a loose bun above the ear. Ends can be pin curled against the head or sprayed for definition.

7. Tuck pins, feathers, etc. along the fold of the twist.
