Times being what they are, we’re avoiding conspicuous consumption.
Unless it’s lunch at Lect’s (short for Life Enhancement Charitable Trust) Soup Stop, a condensed to-go joint in Georgetown’s erstwhile train-switching station.
They’re serving two different soups every weekday: hearty vegetable and the day’s special (chicken noodle with apple, spicy sausage gumbo, split pea and ham). Everything is made using local ingredients (trends being what they are).
Five bucks gets you a pint and a roll served in (mostly) biodegradable packaging. While all profits go to city charities like the Union Gospel Mission, Lect’s primarily wants to offer affordable meals to the neighborhood’s industrial workers; truck drivers; and, yes, the ubiquitous hipsters masquerading as lumberjacks.
Now that’s working class.
