Sow It Goes

From the Farmer’s Almanac, August 10, 2009.

Forty-three days until autumn. Our astrological timetable suggests today is a good day to consider beginning to plan for your potential harvest. Also to breed, for which you should be more decisive.

And it’s a great day to plant an idea: Why not donate some of your bounteous garden or time (should you forgo mate dates) to those in need?

Solid Ground’s Lettuce Link program seeks volunteers, produce donations, and equipment (stuff like gardening tools, ladders, digital cameras, and lawn mowers) to supply fresh fruits and veggies to Seattle food banks, meals programs, and community centers.

Share your gardening know-how with food bank clients and South Park children. Or sign up to tend the Giving Garden at Marra Farm or collect fruit from area residents’ trees.

It’s one area where being picky has its rewards.
