Nice, Home Slice

Art of the Pie Baking Classes

Not everything is easy as pie. Take making pie, for example.

But Kate McDermott’s classes thoroughly resolve any crust issues.

Art of the Pie puts the Zen in kitchens by hand-holding reluctant — even faker — bakers through seasonal pastries, organic fillings, and choosing the best market fruits.

Over the three-hour course, McDermott details the craft’s history and offers baking tips (to find out how much fruit to use, fill the pan to the rim). Recipes and ingredients are provided.

Current sessions feature peaches, blueberries, or blackberries and are limited to three students (choose your cooking comrades well) who each leave with a pie fresh from the oven or to take and bake.
