Sensei and Sensibility

Wabi Sabi Sushi Bar and Restaurant Opens

wabi sabi sushi bar and restaurant!

Ah, grasshopper, you have much to learn. But thankfully, it’s autumn, so none of it need involve waxing on or off.

Let’s start with Wabi Sabi.

Pull up a seat at Columbia City’s new sushi joint named for the Japanese aesthetic that embraces impermanence and imperfection. Thoa Nguyen of Chinoise Cafe and Thoa’s Restaurant & Lounge presents a diverse menu featuring flawless maki, sushi, Hawaiian-inspired entrees, Korean chirashi, and udon.

Center your chi with a sake martini. Then try to show some discipline as you order aromatic saba batayaki, steak loco moco, and the riceless Columbia City roll amid cool mint concrete floors and exposed brick.

We give it four out of five ninja stars.

Wabi Sabi Sushi Bar and Restaurant, 4909 Rainier Avenue South (206-721-0212 or wabisabicolumbiacity.com).
