The flapper do is making a comeback. But this time, it’s tousled and relaxed enough for everyday wear. By creating a pinned-up bob, even those with long hair can rock the look.
Step 1: Make a deep side part and spritz your whole head with spray starch. Use a deep-wave or medium-barrel curling iron to create loose waves all over.
Step 2: Finger-comb all the waves except for those in front (they should remain sleek and close to your forehead). If you have long hair and want to create a faux bob, twist your longer layers into a low bun about two inches below the nape of your neck. Roll the bun under and upward, and secure it beneath the shorter layers with pins.

Part 1940s pinup, part fairy-tale princess, this simple twist adds a touch of whimsy to any ensemble. Grab a curling iron and hair comb, and get ready to roll.
Step 1: Start by working mousse through damp hair. The stylists at Rodarte created texture with Kérastase Mousse Volumactive.
Step 2: Blow-dry your hair and create soft curls around your head with a large-barrel curling iron.
Kérastase Mousse Volumactive, available at kerastase-usa.com, $39; T3 SinglePass Twirl curling iron, available at t3micro.com, $99.
Step 3: Part your hair to one side and gather the center section of hair toward the opposite side of the part. Starting at the area above your eyebrow arch, twist the front section back and down.
Step 4: As you get closer to your ear, use a comb to slick the hair from the hairline near your temple back and into the twist. Use the comb to secure the twist by pushing it against your scalp in the opposite direction, toward the hairline.

This season, bold colors are in full bloom. Thanks to tinted sprays and styling gels, you can take the trend to your tresses without committing to a dye job.
Step 1: Lightly back-comb hair at the crown and top of your head to create volume.
Step 2: Spritz the top layers of hair with hair spray (it helps the color stick) and smooth them back using a wide-tooth comb. Secure in a twist or bun at the back of your head.
Ojon color sustain hair spray, available at sephora.com, $23.50; wide-tooth comb, available at sephora.com, $4.
Step 3: If you opt for a spray color, dab a bit of moisturizer along the hairline and onto your forehead, so that any color that drips down can be easily wiped off.
Step 4: Apply color along your hairline, using less product as you move back to create an ombre effect. Manic Panic Wash Out Hair Color styling gel works well on lighter hair; brunettes should try a more pigmented formula, like Jerome Russell B Wild Color spray.
Manic Panic Wash Out Hair Color styling gel, available at rickysnyc.com, $9.
Stellar news: Lazy grunge hair is back. To make this fresh-from-the-shower look last all day, you need mousse, styling serum, and a curling iron. No bathing required.
Step 1: Start with dry hair. Liberally apply mousse until every strand appears wet (stylists at Alexander Wang used Redken Full Frame 07 volumizing mousse). If your hair is thin, add a few extensions so the style doesn’t fall flat.
Redken Full Frame 07 volumizing mousse, for locations, go to redken.com, $16; Living Proof full thickening mousse, available at sephora.com, $15-$26.
Step 2: As the mousse dries, use your fingers to create a messy, middle part. Comb the hair on each side of the part down toward your ears, so the top half of the hair is slicked to your head.
Step 3: Use a medium-barrel curling iron to loosely curl random sections of hair; smooth ends with a frizz-fighter like Oscar Blandi Olio Di Jasmine shine spray.
Oscar Blandi Olio Di Jasmine shine spray, available at sephora.com, $22.
