Scent of a Woman
Flower Road Natural Therapies
You struggle on the road to redemption, have no luck on the road to success, and only occasionally (meaning never) take the high road.
So allow us to point you in the right direction: Flower Road Natural Therapies.
Owner Michelle Shelmire’s custom aromatherapies are based on the clinical studies of Hippocrates. He believed we must first know ourselves in order to obtain good health, which explains why Shelmire begins each treatment with a personality reading.
After asking a few questions, she mixes a formula of essential oils made especially for you. Then Shelmire gets to work customizing your already relaxing procedure with various techniques — like massage, reflexology, lymphatic drainage, or even iridology (the study of the iris to diagnose disease) — to ensure your body and mind are in total harmony.
Shelmire handmakes everything she uses (including her heavenly creams) and keeps several vials available for sale.
Because you’ll inevitably want one for the road.
Flower Road Natural Therapies, 4209 Bordeaux Avenue, Highland Park (214-987-2766 or flowerroad.net). By appointment only.

Smell Ya Later
Poo-Pourri
You make it a rule not to invite party poopers to your shindigs. But everyone has a crappy day from time to time.
Which is why you stock your bathrooms with Poo-Pourri, a new air freshener from an Austin-based company that you spray in the toilet before you do your business.
What’s so special about it? Number one, it’s made with natural essential oils like lemongrass and grapefruit and is available in travel and home sizes. And, well, number two, it really works. Just give the bowl a good spritz before you go and avoid even the stinkiest of situations.
Sure, friends may tease you for your over-the-top cleanliness, but you (and everyone else) will come off smelling like a rose.
Because, er, stuff happens.

So Fraiche and So Clean
Fraiche Soaps
Judging from the horrified look on your cubiclemate’s face, personal hygiene’s not super high on your to-do list.
Well, if social mores and common courtesy can’t force you into the tub on a regular basis, maybe Fraiche soap can. Created by Denton County native Johnan Ratliff, the line of handmade soaps is simply too lovely to resist.
Made with certified organic ingredients like goat’s milk and aloe vera, the bars come in whimsical “flavors” like the cucumber-melonesque Bare Naked (crafted from Australian Red Reef clay), Rich Dark Chocolate (made with Godiva cocoa powder), or Gardenia (our personal favorite).
And because each scent’s formulated to linger on your skin for hours, one good scrub should last for a while. So you can finally abandon those nasty habits.
And start Fraiche.
