Chocolate Reign

Cacao Opens

If Willy Wonka invited you over for a tasting tour, you’d turn him down on account of the garish factory digs.

In your world, style and substance should go hand in taste bud.

We’ve got sweet news: K Chocolat proprietress Kristen Hard has opened a shop of her own.

A silver-stepped bungalow space, glass display tables, and a wrought-iron scale (for measuring cocoa nibs, Goji berries, and cocoa beans) are a feast for the eyes. The belly will love lemon sorbetto popsicles and chocolate ice cream cups topped with fresh cream.

On weekends, the back room lab/gallery will show art and host public and private tastings. Herbal infusions and healing tinctures are in the works, though details are Oompa-Loompa classified for now.

That’s the golden ticket.

Cacao, 312 North Highland Avenue, suite c, Inman Park (404-221-2626 or kchocolat.com).

table for you, please!

Diner’s Club

RogueApron Dinner Parties

For some, ambient dining means late-hour binging and a neurological disorder. You deserve better than that.

You won’t sleep at RogueApron dinner parties, roving chowdowns fashioned after the likes of Ghetto Gourmet and the underground London dinner party circuit.

Founders Lady Rogue and Lord Apron (we don’t even know their real names yet) organize events around a certain theme — BBQ, sushi rolling lessons, corned beef, coconuts — and go out of their way to mix and match groups for maximum chitchat.

Sign up for updates online or via Facebook and await details on date, theme, and location. Suggested donations are just that: If you’re low on dough, volunteer your services as a dishwasher, greeter, or party host.

So long as you bring something to the table.

Ice Cold Chillin’

Nicecream Frozen Treats

Dad always warned to never trust the milkman. We’re sure that he had his reasons. (Um, Mom?)

But now there are stickier and more wholesome matters at hand.

We got the scoop on Nicecream, a tasty new nondairy treat invented by Candler Park holistic specialist Dr. Leon Lashner based on heart-, skin-, and metabolism-healthy coconut oil and cream.

Dark chocolate is smooth and gooey — like fudge crossed with ice cream. Passionfruit and Coocoo for Coconut are refreshing and gelatoesque.

Try it this weekend at Irwin Street Market’s Sundae Sunday Social, and don’t forget to add Lashner’s own savory-sweet syrups: sea salted caramel, strawberry balsamic, and dark spicy chocolate.

Five dollar entry donations benefit the Atlanta Community Food Bank. Feel free to bring more.

This warrants a special delivery.

Sundae Sunday Social, September 28, 4-7 p.m., at Irwin Street Market, 660 Irwin Street, Inman Park (404-816-3068). Available at all Jake’s locations (jakesicecream.com).
