Strike a Pose

Lindsay Garvey Portraiture

Thanks to Facebook, the whole wide world can see you basking in a bikini and sucking face with a stranger (thanks, “friends”).

Let Lindsay Garvey save your soul (or at least some dignity). The local photographer has launched a portraiture biz, snapping subjects in curiously cool settings.

Inspired by Avedon and French film noir, Garvey works with clients to come up with an appropriate backdrop and wardrobe, even scouring prop stores to set the perfect stage.

Throw on your favorite vintage dress for a retro series in Granny’s kitchen, bring an upholstered chair outside and plop down for kitschy juxtaposition, or slip into a booth at a diner decked in a formal frock for a bit of whimsy.

Choose your favorite shot and have her blow it up on stretch canvas for something different.

And say hello to a jazzy new profile pic.

Just Browsing

Mad About Brows

Today’s conundrum: What do Julia Roberts, your stilettos, and Madeleine Klein all have in common?

(Furrow your brow and take a moment.)

They’re arch rivals.

Stumped? Find your answer at Mad About Brows, just one block off Union Square, where arch aficionado Madeleine Klein (trained by the infamous Anastasia) will transform you from Frida to fantastic.

Whether you’re overplucked, under tweezed, or just slightly uneven, Klein will master your curves to perfectly complement your face. And don’t be afraid to spread the word to the guys, as she prefers tweezing over waxing to create a more natural look — meaning they won’t leave looking like Zac Efron.

And the pluck doesn’t stop there. She also uses various pencils to get your color just right.

So stop going it alone: You’re your own arch enemy.

your fairy godmother!

In Your Face

Gal on the Go Mobile Primping Service

Oh, dear. You’ll never make it through gala season without the help of a fairy godmother.

Can she turn a pumpkin into a coach? No. But Yelena alum Melissa Cope can transform brow-furrowed workaholics into belles of the ballet with her Gal on the Go service.

The skin care expert brings her A-list treatment to your home in her Glam Mobile. A little express facial here, a brow shape there, a sneaky pucker-pumping hyperbaric oxygen infusion, some makeup, and you’re glowing. Book her solo or throw a prebash session with your ladies-in-waiting.

If your invitation to the ball got lost in the mail, console yourself at Cope’s new Laurel Heights studio with a facial and makeup lesson.

Either way, you’re in for a happy ending.

Melissa Cope Skin Care and Makeup Studio, 3516 Sacramento Street, between Laurel and Locust Streets, suite 6 (415-771-7546 or mcskincare.com).
