The Weekend Guide

arias with a twist!

Get crazy.

TWIST
Arias with a Twist
What:
Joey Arias sang backup for David Bowie on SNL, hosted Cirque du Soleil’s Zumanity, and collaborated with Paul Reubens (a.k.a. Pee-Wee). Now he’s bringing his delightfully dark one-man show to the boldest theater in town.
Why: His version of Led Zeppelin’s “Kashmir” will thrill your pants off. (Note: His might already be.)
When: Thru May 6.
Where: Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company, 641 D St. NW (202-393-3939). Tickets ($30 and up) online at ticketing.woollymammoth.net.

FEAST
Mexican Passover at Rosa Mexicano
What:
Master chef Jonathan Waxman (NYC’s Barbuto) adds heat, zip, and imagination to familiar Seder dishes.
Why: Red snapper gefilte, beef brisket tacos, and Dr. Brown’s Cel-Ray tonic. And, of course, guacamole (because why not?).
When: Fri.-Apr. 13.
Where: 575 7th St. NW (202-783-5522).

ROAD TRIP
Hunger Games Laser Tag
What:
Trip twenty miles north of D.C. and divide your carload into tributes. After a brief intro, jump into 50 minutes of intense play in which moves are recorded for points.
Why: Scour the woodsy course for virtual tokens — and for Peeta’s sake, stay alive.
When: Thru Sat.
Where: TagParty Recon, 8550 Fair St., at Washington St., Savage (410-750-2367). To book an appt., go to tagpartyrecon.com. Cost is $25 per player; group discounts can be arranged in advance.

BURST
Southwest Waterfront Fireworks Festival
What:
An eight-hour community party with nonstop concerts, a food-truck rally, kiddie booths, and an illuminated boat parade.
Why: Stay until 8:30, when fireworks — a gift from the city of Nagaoka, Japan — light up the Washington Channel.
When: Sat., 1-9 p.m.
Where: Kastles Stadium at The Wharf, 800 Water St. SW (877-442-5666). Admission is free.

SHOP
L.K. Bennett Pumps at Sassanova
What:
Complete your Easter brunch outfit with the same pair of sleek heels (in black or nude, $325) favored by Kate Middleton Mountbatten-Windsor.
Why: Make some bunny look twice.
When: Mon.-Wed., 10 a.m.-7 p.m.; Thurs.-Sat., 10 a.m.-8 p.m.; Sun., noon-5 p.m.
Where: 7134 Bethesda Ln. (301-654-7403).
