Lucketts Be Our Lady Tonight

A quick jaunt to Loudon County

lucketts virginia!

Hunting antiques and adventure at the Spring Market (Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.) in Lucketts, Virginia, is a game for two. Invite your squeeze to play along during a country-fried overnight in Loudon County.

Hide: In a handsome B&B. Book the stripe-strewn Old Dominion Room at The Norris House Inn, a 1760s mansion with private garden in Old Town Leesburg.

Seek: An old-fashioned treat. Pick up rhubarb pies with crimped crusts at Mom’s Apple Pie Company.

Hide: Embroidered sheets, jade bowls, and kitchen chairs in need of a coat of paint from other eager beavers. Amble through fifteen acres of finds in the fields surrounding The Old Lucketts Store. Say hello to DIY royalty, Christen Bensten of Blue Egg Brown Nest. She hawks reconditioned furniture in the Field of Gold section.

Seek: A photo op. Trip five miles over to White’s Ferry for a ride on the General Jubal A. Early, the cable ferry that’s been hauling cars, buggies, and horses across the Potomac since 1782 ($8 round trip).

Hide: In the back of the Old Stone School. Drive to the village of Hillsboro for the Bluemont country dance (Saturday, 8 p.m.; $10 per person). Learn do-si-do’s and do-si-don’ts at the 7:30 p.m. beginners class.
Seek: Even more artisan goods. Stop by the silent auction table to bid on quilts, scarves, and home-tapped maple syrup.

Hide: Your treasures back at the inn. Walk to Tuscarora Mill for a nightcap and cross your fingers that cheesecake beignets are on the menu.

Seek: Zzz’s in your room. Dream of innkeeper Roger Healey’s Eggs Norris in the morning.

No wonder they call it Hunt Country.
