Babies make you appreciate the little things. So much so that after the arrival of her daughter, Paris-born architect Marie-Laure Bouwens turned her eye to smaller-scale projects, launching an architecture and interior design firm specializing in kids’ spaces.

Maison de Loulou’s aesthetic combines French je ne sais quoi with parental necessity for function. The latest project, a circus-inspired boy’s bedroom, is a testament to how expertly Bouwens walks the tightrope between embracing a theme and overdesigning.

Ebay finds (a chair painted white and embellished with a red star) sit alongside a collection of carefully curated toys that give the room a rich design essence without any major splurges.
