The Japanese always seem to be one trend ahead. (Heated toilet seats? Get on that, America.)
So when we heard the popular Tokyo nail spa, Mars, opened a West Hollywood outpost, it was like Christmahanukwanzaakah had come early.
Stepping into the Zen space, we found the usual salon trappings (broken massage chairs, questionable hygiene standards) replaced with immaculate private rooms, custom leather chairs, flat-screen TVs, iPad add-on service menus (scalp massage, organic facial), and built-in porcelain foot baths.
Adhering to the Japanese principle of wa-no-omotenashi (translation: kick-ass customer service), two nail technicians attend to each client, administering detailed manis and pedis that incorporate the cherry blossom-infused house product line.
Solid color jobs, French manicures, and buffs are available, but gel art is where the spa shines. Choose from a range of patterns (leopard print, rhinestone-studded flowers) or customize your own design and palette.
