9 people, places, and things to bark about

Prepped-to-order meals, long walks, and parks chockablock with squirrels: D.C. dogs have it good. If you really want to spoil your pup rotten, call on these nine experts.

Pampered Pug
Loudoun County dogs ride in style with Kit & Kaboodle’s taxi service to and from groomers and day care. Or shepherd your pet to the Old Towne Pet Resort, where sports massages, pawicures, and laps in a therapeutic pool are on the menu.

Relaxation Dalmatian
Combat separation anxiety with help from Puppy Love Pet Sitters, which will send a staff member to spend the night with your animal (and water your plants and bring in the paper). Not for bargain hounds ($100 per night), it’s great in a pinch(er).

How Now, Chow Chow?
Big dogs and scaredy-cats should have DC MetroVet on speed dial. Dr. JD Warford makes house calls in D.C., as well as Montgomery, Prince George’s, Anne Arundel, and Baltimore counties.

Party Girls and Borzois
Book your four-legged baby’s birthday party on the patio at Ireland’s Own Pub in Old Town. It has a dedicated doggie menu (lamb and beef stews). Sociable pooches sit up and beg to attend Paws at the Park happy hour at the Park Hyatt Washington, D.C. (May 15, 6-8 p.m.). Tickets ($14, at the door) include two drinks and unlimited dog treats.

No Pain, Great Dane
High-strung, sick, and sore Spots find relief at VCA SouthPaws Veterinary Specialists, a 24-hour clinic with an integrative medicine department where acupuncture is routine for relieving stress and hurty joints.

Regal Beagle
Sticking your head out of a moving car is so last century. Potomac Riverboat Company hosts dog-friendly cruises this season: May 18, June 13, July 11, August 8, and October 26. Pups are so welcome, there’s no cost to take a leashed friend.

Whippet Good
In case the good life inside the Beltway gets boring, find a weekend house. Seventy-five percent of the homes listed by Eastern Shore Vacation Rentals welcome up to two dogs without a pet deposit. And you can ask that the house be stocked with chew toys.
