Pizza and beer are sort of the Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers of food combos. It just doesn’t get any classier.
Assuming, that is, you’re enjoying the two at Rustico, a new neighborhood restaurant in Potomac Plaza in Old Town. The fourth restaurant in the family of Virginia favorites Evening Star Cafe, Vermilion, and Tallula offers gourmet comfort food cooked in a wood-burning oven or on a wood grill, as well as 250 bottled beers and 30 beers on tap.
Try a delicious fire-grilled six-cheese pizza with homemade mozzarella, asiago, parmigiano, provolone, goat, and gorgonzola— and wash it down with a good draft Brooklyn Brown Ale or Dominion Oak Barrel Stout.
Beer not your style? Have some sangria, that inimitable mixture of alcohol and fruit.
Or, as we like to call it, the Liza Minelli and David Gest of food combos.
Rustico, 827 Slaters Lane, Alexandria (703-224-5051).
