You’ve long suspected that the luck of the Irish has a tendency to elude you. There was that month-long, college-era Guinness hangover. And green has never been your best color.
But all that’s about to change tomorrow with the opening of Eamonn’s. The Dublin-style chipper is the newest creation of Cathal Armstrong — yes, the one from Restaurant Eve and the recent recipient of some pretty big awards. (What’s luckier than that?)
Crispy battered fish is the anchor of the menu, which only makes sense for a place with “Thanks Be to Cod” painted on the front door. Homemade condiments, fries, bangers, and doughnuts complete it. Take away, eat in at one of the few seats, or go upstairs to PX, the speakeasy-style bar accessed by an unmarked side entrance that offers all manner of classic cocktails.
And if that isn’t like finding a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow, we don’t know what is.
Eamonn’s, 728 King Street, Alexandria (703-299-8384).
