Of the various things that have been said to “take you away,” sailing is perhaps the least likely to make an appearance in your life. (Calgon is far more probable.)
Unless you’ve heard about the Sailing Club of Washington. The not-for-profit organization provides a taste of the boating life right here in town, with free sailing Thursday evenings from 6:30 to dark.
Both total landlubbers and old salts are welcome: Just show up at the Washington Sailing Marina and you’ll be invited onto one of the vessels. Then hang out on the dock for a little pre- and post-sail party.
And if you want to get your feet a little wetter, become a member (only $45 a year) for access to lessons, boats, involvement in races, and plenty of other water action. At such a reasonable rate, you can afford to become a seasoned skipper — or just a once-in-a-while crewman.
Whatever floats your boat.
