The darn British.
Washington, Revere, and those other guys fought so hard to get them outta here. And what do we do? We keep inviting them to reinvade (Dirty Pretty Things, Ali G, Matthew Williamson).
And come this weekend, we’ll open our arms even wider to embrace Reiss, the U.K. label that’s setting up shop in our capital. The store (all exposed brick and hardwood) will carry the laid-back yet properly chic (they are English, after all) clothing and accessories they’re known for across the pond.
Guys can check out banded-waist jackets and slim-fitting jeans. Ladies are in for a treat with sequined and embroidered cocktail dresses (a nod to Temperley, perhaps?), cozy wrap sweaters, knit dresses with puff sleeves, and pencil skirts that button up the side.
For chilly days there are gracefully cut coats in brown, white, yellow, and crimson.
But this time around, this is one red coat we’re happy to get on board with.
Reiss, 1254 Wisconsin Avenue NW, between N and Prospect Streets (202-944-8565). To see styles, go to reiss.co.uk.
