Defining Moment

Webster Clothing

Everyone knows that when it comes to lexical matters, Webster is the go-to source. But it’s a little-known fact that you can also turn to Webster in a fashion crisis.

Webster clothing, that is.

This season’s collection, in so many words.

Ada skirt n. Cream wool plaid pleated skirt. (From Latin discipula, schoolgirlish, but more refined.)

Daphne dress n. 1. Steel blue silk polka-dot print dress. 2. Of or having to do with looking sultry but not sleazy. 3. Ideal for anytime you don’t know what to put on.

Kate shirt n. An adorable and delicate blouse with short puffed sleeves, tiny blue and brown print, and thin sash. Looks beguilingly delicate when paired with trousers. Gives a sexy secretary vibe when matched with a skirt. (See: Ada skirt.)

Mica jacket n. 1. A gold brocade number with three-quarter sleeves and boxy cut that can be worn over a little dress to dinner with the in-laws or with skinny jeans and a tee for much-needed drinks the next night.

Take a page from Webster’s book and before long people will define you as soigne.

Available at Hysteria, 125 South Fairfax Street, Alexandria (703-548-1615). To see styles, go to websterclothing.com.
