Dress Down

There’s nothing like a contradiction in terms to shake things up: crotchless underwear, happy hour with your ex. (Just don’t do both at the same time.)

And the latest to hit the scene: T-shirt ball gowns.

Designer Angela Johnson constructs black-tie dresses from vintage tees. Each full-length frock has a strapless bodice (darted for a flattering fit) and a full skirt, making them perfect for holiday soirees.

Skeptical? You can trust Johnson, whose resume includes a stint at Kim Gordon’s X-Girl line, to select the tees — or she welcomes you to supply your own. It takes about twenty shirts to make one of these unique pieces, so if you haven’t already ditched those Delta Delta Delta tees from those good ole college days, this is your chance (please, it’s time).

Every gown is one-of-a-kind, and they’re perfect for any bash that requires casual elegance.

Whatever that means.
