Let’s just agree that you wouldn’t want your mechanic doing double duty as your doctor or tech support highlighting your hair.
But you probably won’t mind if your designer also sculpts. Especially if she’s Rachel Comey, who has just introduced her spring line of shoes.
Comey’s background as an artist (Whitney Biennial), gallery director (Exquisite Corpse), and costumer (Gogol Bordello) shows itself in a collection that’s as artistic as it is wearable.
It includes handcrafted leather and linen flats, mahogany wood wedges, and cone heels. The best styles are Hazel, a chunky platform with a T-strap; Willow, a sassy slingback with clean lines and a fringed toe; and Mirth, a suede number with studded and jeweled ankle cuffs.
The mostly muted palette works well whether you’re coercing clients over dinner or dazzling a date during drinks.
Two things you are totally capable of.
Available at Hu’s Shoes, 3005 M Street NW, between 30th and 31st Streets (202-342-0202 or hushoes.com). To see styles, go to rachelcomey.com.
