Over the Counter

Tonic Opens

Sure, you savored every last one of those Percocets from Dr. FeelGood for that “back problem.” But that doesn’t mean getting your kicks from the pharmacy is a good idea.

Unless, that is,  it happens to be the old Quigley’s Pharmacy space, where Tonic has just opened.

Like the Mt. Pleasant original, the new restaurant and bar offers simple American food in a laid-back, neighborhoody atmosphere.

The menu is hearty, homey, and long. Try a pulled pork BBQ sandwich with tater tots, brick oven pizza with fresh local ingredients, or grilled mahi mahi with cilantro lime salsa.

Grab a seat on the first floor, decorated with a huge mural of old elixir bottles and the bar’s motto, “Cures What Ails You.” Or get a booth in the spacious upstairs dining room. Eventually there will be a top floor for lounging, patio seating, and a separate takeout area.

In other words, just what the doctor ordered.

Tonic, 2036 G Street NW, at 21st Street (202-296-0211).
