Summer is the time for lazing in a hammock and slurping up watermelon, but it’s also the time for sunburns, sweat, and sangria overload. Give yourself a little TLC.
You are what you eat, but now you can wear what you eat at The Spa at Mint. The new Açai Facial uses the ingredients of the açai energy bowl from the in-house cafe to create a moisturizing mask. The custom facial includes a granola scrub; extractions; and the tasty final touch, which is made from açai, yogurt, banana, and honey. Not enough? You’ll also get a shot of açai juice to drink.
You can’t stretch summer forever, but you can stretch yourself a bit more with Mind the Mat Pilates and Yoga, a cozy new studio in Del Ray. The classes mix traditional offerings (calisthenics) with fun like happy hour, free meditation, and couples Thai yoga.
Yearning for a garden of your own? Do yourself one better by eating off the garden menu at Poste Moderne Brasserie. Served all summer on the patio, it features organic, sustainable, and local ingredients, often from the kitchen’s adjacent garden. Uber-fresh items include kona kampachi with grapefruit and crispy ginger and a salad of heirloom tomatoes.
Do some good for a four-legged friend with the new running club organized by the Washington Humane Society (202-723-5730). Bring your own pup or take a shelter dog for a jog through the Mall. The group, led by the society’s director of animal training, meets on Saturday mornings.
Now go give yourself some summer lovin’.
