You’ve got the pinching pennies part down pat. Now party like it’s 1929 with a flapper-style ’do courtesy of Allison Lyle from Sassoon Salon.
What you’ll need: gel or styling cream; bobby pins or flat, long clips; blow-dryer with diffuser; hair spray; retro accessories.
Step 1
Work a quarter-size dab of gel or cream through clean, wet hair (starting at the roots). Part hair on one side of the head in a deeper part than normal. If you have side-swept bangs, even better.
Step 2
Separate a three-inch portion of hair from the front of your head and form into an S-shaped wave. Use your finger to hold the wave in place until you secure the groove with a pin or clip. Continue down the section, making more waves about two inches apart. Curl or scrunch remaining hair with your fingers, spritzing lightly with hairspray to keep the shape.
Step 3
Blow-dry, holding the diffuser gently over both finger waves and the scrunched part of the hair. When hair is completely dry and has cooled, remove the pins or clips.
Step 4
Soften waves by gently moving your fingers at your scalp to loosen. Spray with hair spray to hold. Finish the look with a cute vintage pin or clip.
