The D.C.-based writer reads from her book ($15) Up for Renewal: What Magazines Taught Me About Love, Sex, and Starting Over and signs copies.
Why: She lightheartedly, self-deprecatingly, and hilariously reveals how she tackled every how-to in women’s mags — from the silly (storing sandwiches) to the poignant (talking deeply with her mother).

Look for local designer Dana Ayanna Greaves’s signature paper jewelry, plus bags, tops, jackets, and skirts at the new pop-up shop inside Nido.
Why: Prep for fall with a red leather miniskirt adorned with cut fabric squares and gold studs and a knit top edged in a braided trim ($30-$400).

AFI Latin American Film Festival
The Spanish, Portuguese, and Latin American showcase opens with Revolution, a collection of shorts made in Mexico and commissioned by Gael García Bernal, Diego Luna, and Pablo Cruz.
