Grape Ape

Vinoteca Wine Bar & Bistro Opens

viva la vinoteca!

When it comes to wine, you’re like that fox from Aesop’s fable — you’re interested in it; you try to get a grip on it; but when it gets too far out of reach, you move on.

Time to visit Vinoteca, the come-as-you-are wine bar and eatery that rids wine of its esoteric rep and makes it accessible to anyone who wants to learn more.

You’ll find more than 68 local and international vinos, bottles of which float on steel rods separating the dining area from the lively bar. An open butcher shop lets you to witness the preparation of cheese plates and charcuteries, while you wait for dishes like rustic coq au vin and fondue.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the wine list, Vinoteca serves beers, cocktails, and mojitos made with mint picked from their mini herb garden.

And don’t be shy about asking the knowledgeable bartender to help you make a decision.

These grapes are way too good to pass up.

Vinoteca Wine Bar & Bistro, 1940 11th Street NW, between T and U Streets (202-332-9463).
